The Carey house is furnished with incredible antique furnishings and matching dark brown/red woodwork in the lobby as well as large, back lit stained glass window coverings along the wall across from the front desk,. An antique piano and a chess board with chairs and well as chairs and couches filled out the lobby. My room was similarly furnished though they may have been imitation but IDC. I ended up paying for a single room but ended up with a sitting room with two wing chairs and TV as well as a vary small kitchen (two burner stove top, mini fridge and sink to go with the bathroom and my bedroom with a second TV and a comfy bed. The weather was mild so no AC in the room was a non issue but I can see it could be in mid summer. The only minor drawback was the carpets in the hall were not perfectly smooth but the damn building is 150 years old so its to be expected. Staff was very friendly but the front desk closed down relatively early and opened later than expected (seemed to operate from 8:00am-7:00PM although they could be reached by phone. That they locked the lobby doors when the front desk was no staffed was actually a bonus since non guest could not wander around and the room key opened the front door when it was locked. This is a historic hotel with all the look and atmosphere one could hope for at incredibly cheap price ($83.00/night for three nights). I would stay there again in a second. Also several food options within a couple of block in downtown Old Placerville and while most of the food was just OK it was close and acceptable. I even took photos of the lobby to show off to my friends who stayed in other nearby places at much higher prices.

First, the location was perfect, so much to see right in town. Second, it was spotless, the quality of the towels and linens was top notch, the bathroom was super clean. We paid a fantastic price through Booking. The beautiful lobby was charming and full of history. Obviously updated many times over the last century and a half. The historic elevator workered well. Of course it is old and could have used a little more thought in the decorating, but a great place.

Carly greeted us with open arms! She was fabulous with a quick check in and provided us with needed information on the local restaurants. She went above and beyond our entire stay and guided us through the whats what in town. Perfect walking location to shops, restaurants. Hotel Parking is located on side of hotel for free with parking pass from hotel lobby. Room was rooming (2 bedroom suite). Very old and outdated, but one night was perfect!

Last hour booking while traveling, didn't want to keep driving much later. Picked for location, historic significance, ratings, reviews, so first time staying. We love the historic preservation of the main lobby and hotel. Location is excellent to walk to many establishments in Old Town with great character. Was not disappointed and would stay again!

Katie, at the desk, was accommodating and helpful. We had issues with the bathroom in our first selected room. She quickly found another room right as the hotel sold out for the weekend! The rooms are simple and comfortable, the lobby is interesting, and the hotel itself is an historic site right in the middle of downtown Placerville.
